Prime Shelf

The boy likes to collect things and he started to collect his empty Prime Hydration bottles. He asked for a way to display them since he was running out of room on his book shelf so I cleaned up a piece of reclaimed wood and made a floating shelf for his room.

I started by removing the nails and then the left over metal particles in the holes. I then planed it down slightly to get it a little flatter so the bottles wouldn’t wobble. The board was 28″ so I measured 6″ in from each side to drill the holes with the Kreg Jig (28-16=12√2=6). After that was sanding. I started with 80 grit and worked through 120, 220, 320, and 440. Then wiped the board down with a denatured alcohol to raise the grains on it and sanded with the 440 again. The finish was just a light layer of boiled linseed oil to allow the natural grain to show.
